WATERVILLE — Hall-Dale High School graduate Carylanne Wolfington hit an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Colby to a 4-3 win over Bates in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Friday at Crafts Field.

Tori Sansone started the fifth by reaching on an error, then moved to second on a sacrifice by Lindsay Peterson. Carolyn Bennett followed with a single to move Sansone to third and Wolfington drove in the game-winning run.

Second baseman Meaghan Lewia had two hits and scored two runs for the Mules, who improve to 6-5, 1-0 in the conference. Megan Michie earned the win to improve to 3-1 and lower her ERA to 1.59. She struck out seven, didn’t walk a batter and gave up just one earned run.

Colby went up 1-0 when Lewia led off with a double, and scored on a groundout by Brianne Wheeler after a sacrifice by Wolfington. Bates (4-8, 0-4 in the conference) scored twice in the third to take the lead after back-to-back singles by Mary Lewis of Gardiner and AnnaMarie Martino, an error and a sacrifce fly.

Colby tied it at 2 after three straight walks and a single by Sansone.

Castleton 8-1, UM-Farmington 2-10: Ethan Jean had two hits and three RBIs as the Beavers cruised to a win in the second game of a doubleheader in Castleton, Vt.

UMF (2-6) scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning (the Beavers were the home team despite playing on the road) to seal the win. Colin Mello and Dustin McCrossin each added two hits and an RBI, while Erskine Academy graduate Jory Humphrey had a double, an RBI and scored a run. Fellow Erskine graduate Tom Grady had a sacrifice fly.

Ben Pearson pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out seven and walkig four for UMF.

In the first game, Castleton (8-4) scored four times in the top of the fourth to seal the win.

Trinity 13, Colby 11: Scott Huley hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Bantams beat the Mules in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game in Hartford, Conn.

Joe Papa added two hits, three RBIs and scored three runs for Trinity (12-8). Bryan Ginsberg added two and two RBIs for Trinity.

Tyler Starks had three hits and two RBIs for Colby (7-5). Cony High School graduate Luke Duncklee had a hit and scored a run, while Alec Finigan had three hits and scored three runs for the Mules. Tim Corey chipped in two hits, scored three runs and had an RBI for Colby.
