NEWRY — The University of Maine at Farmington men’s Alpine ski team finished 10th in the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association National Championships on Thursday at Sunday River Ski Resort.

Sierra Nevada College had five skiers finish in the top six to win the team title. St. Olaf was second, followed by Rocky Mountain College.

UMF had two skiers not finish because of falls and finished 10th out of 19 teams.

Sam Ricker lead UMF with a two-run time of 2 minutes, 29.83 seconds to finish 33rd. Josh Cooley of Vassalboro finished 44th at 2:32.46 and Sebastien Dumont of Skowhegan finished in 67th at 2:50.08.

UMF will be back in action for the slalom competition on Saturday.

Also for UMF, Katie Keough, who won the national title in the snowboard giant slalom earlier in the competition, finished 23rd in the time trails of the women’s snowboard boardercross Thursday, finishing outside the top 16 and failing to make the quarterfinals.

Keough returns to action today in slopestyle competition.
