TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Maine football team rallied but was unable to finish the comeback and lost to Towson University 24-19 in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday night.
Maine trailed 17-10 in the fourth quarter and got within four when Sean Decloux kicked a 28-yard field goal with 6 minutes, 45 seconds left. Towson responded when Erron Banks scored on a long touchdown run to give the Tigers a 24-13 lead.
Maine came back and cut it to 24-19 when Marcus Wasilewski scored from 9-yards out with 38 seconds remaining, but the ensuing onside kick was recovered by Towson.
Towson took the lead when Terrance West scored on a 1-yard run with 5:11 left in the first quarter. Maine responded with an eight-play, 56-yard drive that ended with a 33-yard field goal by Decloux.
Maine took a 10-7 lead on a 92-yard interception return by Troy Eastman just under a minute into the second quarter.
Towson quarterback Grant Enders threw an 18-yard TD pass to Banks with 1:22 left in the second quarter. Towson went up 17-10 when D.J. Sloven kicked a 38-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Maine falls to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the conference. Towson is 3-3, 2-1 in CAA play.
