GARDINER -- Gardiner dealt defending state champion Belfast its first loss of the season, beating the Lions 3-0 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B field hockey game Saturday morning.

Belfast (8-1-0) had a 10-9 advantage in shots on goal and a 10-5 edge in penalty corners, but Gardiner converted more of its chances. Brooke Davis scored 2 minutes, 11 seconds into the game on a goal set up by Madeline Reny, and Reny had two goals in the second half. Davis and LeeAnne Greenleaf assisted on Reny's goals.
Greenleaf played a solid game at midfield for Gardiner (7-1-0), and goalie Emalee Couture made 10 saves, including four in the final two minutes.
Julia Ward had six saves for Belfast.
Messalonskee 10, Lewiston 0: Kristy Bernatchez and Emily York combined for seven goals and two assists as the Eagles won the KVAC A game in Oakland.
Bernatchez had four goals and an assist, while York added three goals and an assist. Brooke Quirion scored two goals and Sydney Gagne had one. In goal, Abby Roberts made five saves for the Eagles (7-1).
Ravon Palmer had 25 saves for Lewiston (6-3).
Maranacook 8, Lincoln 0: Lindsay Webber had a hat trick to lead the Black Bears to the KVAC B win in Newcastle. Amber Ridlon added a goal and two assists for Maranacook (2-6-0) while Mariah Vining scored two goals. Caroline Clark and Lindsay Jackson chipped in with a goal apiece. Bree Goetz didn't have to make a save in net.
Andrea Call made 17 saves for Lincoln (0-8-0).
Girls soccer
Dirigo 5, Winthrop 0: Natalie Bolduc had two goals and two assists as the Cougars won the Mountain Valley Conference game in Winthrop.
Lindsy Crutchfield, Kayla Gaudin and Celine Bolduc each added a goal for Dirigo (6-2-1), while Michelle Morrison had two assists.
Danielle Pease had 20 saves for Winthrop (0-8-1).
Boys soccer
Mt. Abram 6, Winthrop 0: Trevor Brackley scored twice to lead the host Roadrunners to the MVC win. Chris Daly, Cody Espienette, Jay Chenard and Dayton Vandry also scored for Mt. Abram (5-4-0). Tristen Dyer and Sak Sirwong combined to make four saves.
Matt Sekerak stopped 16 shots for Winthrop (2-5-1).
