The Hall-Dale High School track and field teams turned the Cony Under the Lights meet into a record-breaking night Friday.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

• Maranacook’s Taylor Watson won the 110 hurdles (16.19) and 300 hurdles (42.88) at the annual Cony Under the Lights meet.
• Cony’s Luke Dang won the 200 (24.00) and 400 (52.87) at the meet.
• Maranacook’s Harry Lanphear won the shot put (42.0.5) and javelin 137-6 at the meet.
• Maranacook’s Abby Mace won the 1,600 (5:27.43) and 3,200 (11:42.28).
• Monmouth Academy’s Kevin Desmond won the 800 with a time of 2:05.70 at the Cony Under the Lights Meet. He also ran on the winning 4x800 team with Ben Bailey, Eric Columbe and Henry Talbot also ran on that team

The girls 4x100-meter relay team of Bri Crisci, Kate Cart, Sara Price and Teresa Withee set a school record with a time of 4 minutes, 32.28 seconds. The relay team shaved about 10 seconds off its previous best time.

"They creamed the record," Hall-Dale coach Kristen Davis said. "They just demolished it. It was a great performance."

The Bulldogs didn't stop there. Sophomore Josh Ringer ran the 1,600 in a school-record 4:51.32. Caelan Lapointe ran the 3,200 in 10:40.73.

"The distance guys had a great meet," Davis said. "Now we are just bearing down for the (Mountain Valley Conference) meet.

The Mountain Valley Championships are 1 p.m. Friday at Alumni Field in Augusta.

Gardiner junior Annie Schide won the 1,600 racewalk at the Cony Under the Lights meet, finishing in 8:27.06.

She beat her closest pursuer -- Lindsey Whitney of Lisbon -- by more than 45 seconds. Schide finished third in the event at the KVAC B championship meet and fourth in Class B last season.

"She is really gearing up for conference and states," Gardiner coach Eric Hall said.

The Tigers are short on numbers -- they have just eight girls on the roster -- but are poised for some strong performances in the postseason meets.

Olivia Reny should contend in the 100 hurdles, as well.

"They have done really well," Hall said. "We have some strong competitors."

Erskine coach Chris Bennett hoped his Eagles would have enough depth to make yet another run at defending Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B champ Waterville this season.

Last spring the Erskine boys gave Waterville all it could handle, losing the KVAC B title by 3.5 points.

However, Bennett said Tuesday only 38 of their 82 athletes -- about 46 percent -- qualified for the KVAC B meet, which is Saturday at McMann Field in Bath.

"We didn't get as many people qualified as we would've liked," Bennett said. "We like to be around 50 percent, if not a little higher. We were hoping to give Waterville a run for its money, but it looks like a longshot now. But we'll go there and give it our best shot."

Jarrod Lenfest and Ethan Bronson have enjoyed strong seasons for the Erskine boys. The two should be seeded high in the distance events at the KVAC B meet.

On the girls team, Brittany Sherman and Kelly McCormac are contenders in the 400.

"I have a bunch of kids who have qualified in six or seven events, so we are seeing where there best fit is," Bennett said. "We want to give them their best chance to move up."

Hall-Dale hosted a last chance qualifying meet Monday for athletes hoping to squeeze into conference and state championship meets.

Winthrop sent three boys -- Sam Vigue, Dan Moody and Casey Nadeau -- and each qualified for the MVC meet in one event.

Vigue needed to throw the discus 95 feet to qualify, and he finished with a 95-2. Dan Moody qualified in the long jump with a leap of 16-2 while Nadeau threw the shot put 36-2.25.

"They all extended their seasons," Winthrop coach Ed Van Tassel said. "They just squeaked in, but it's great because they will get to experience a big meet."

Cony sophomore Luke Dang is finally warming up to running the 400. Dang, one of the top sprinters in KVAC A, was thrown into the 400 this season.

At the Cony Under the Lights meet, Dang won the event in 52.87, shaving nearly two seconds off his previous best time.

"It was really hard in the end," Dang said Tuesday. "I was really working on form. I didn't think I could cut off two seconds."

Dang will run the event at the KVAC A meet Saturday.

"I want to break 52 (seconds)," he said. "We'll see. I'll be ready."

Messalonskee junior Harlow Ladd had a tough day at the Community Cup on Monday, coming up short to Waterville's Jeff Hale in the 800 and 3,200.

"It was pretty tough," said Ladd, who did win the 1,600. "But If I had to lose to anybody I'm glad it was to Jeff Hale."

Added Messalonskee coach Scott Wilson: "Harlow doesn't like to lose. He says he is ready to do what he needs to do."

Next up for Ladd is the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A meet Saturday in Bath.

"I don't plan on losing," he said. "I just want to go out there and prove to myself that I am still fast."

Ladd is going to run the 800, 1,600, 3,200 and 4x400 relay at the KVAC meet.

"It's going to be a big day," he added.
