LOCAL ROUNDUP: Freeport knocks off Maranacook

FREEPORT -- Nina Davenport scored 12 points and Ashley Richardson had nine as Freeport beat Maranacook 48-37 in a Western B prelim game Wednesday evening.

Davenport also grabbed eight rebounds.

Freeport (13-6) advances to play top-seeded Lake Region (16-2) in a quarterfinal game Tuesday at the Portland Expo.

Christine Miller scored a game-high 19 points for No. 9 Maranacook (11-8).

Elizabeth D'Angelo added nine points for the Black Bears.

Cape Elizabeth 55, Oak Hill 36: Marlo Dell Aquila scored 22 points as the Capers beat the Raiders in a Western B prelim game Wednesday.

No. 7 Cape Elizabeth advances to play No. 2 York in the quarterfinals Tuesday. No. 10 Oak Hill ends the season 11-8.

Grace Sabine led the Raiders with 11 points. Sadie Goulet added 10.


Brunswick 3, MHW 2: Sophomore forward Matt Brooks scored three minutes into overtime to lift the Dragons to the Eastern A victory at Bonnefond Ice Arena.

Kyle Woodruff assisted on the goal for the Dragons (8-7-1).

The Hawks (8-5-2), who never led in the game, are 1-3-1 in their last five games.

Dan Condon and Peter Prescott scored for MHW.

Cony 7, Edward Little 2: Dallas Clark scored three goals and two assists to lead the Rams to the Eastern A victory at Ingersoll Arena on Wednesday night.

Spencer Buck, Anthony Brunell, Zach Gagne and Dakota Benson also scored for Cony (9-3-3).
Austin Davis had a pair of assists.

Matt Grenier scored a goal for EL (4-10-2).

Women's basketball

Hartford 82, Maine 56: Amber Bepko scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Hawks to the America East victory in West Hartford, Conn.

Hartford (17-8, 8-4 in America East) jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back.

Ashleigh Roberts scored 23 points to go along with four steals and three assists to lead Maine (2-22, 1-10).
