WATERVILLE — The Colby College field hockey team earned one of its biggest wins in the last 10 seasons, beating 17th-ranked Trinity College 5-0 on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.

Colby (4-1-0, 2-1-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference) scored four first-half goals on its way to the victory. Misha Strange, Charlotte Deavers, Megan Fortier and Kaitlyn O’Connell scored in the first half and Fortier scored again in the second half for the Mules. Fortier also had an assist, while Meghan Murray had three assists and Tori Brown, Caitlin Murray and Strange each had one.

Sarah Evans had six saves for Colby, while Anne Scalambrino and Sophie Fitzpatrick combined for four saves for Trinity (3-2-0, 2-1-0).

Thomas 3, New England College 0: Messalonskee High School graduate Miranda Tinsman scored two first-half goals as the Terriers earned a shut out in Henniker, N.H.

Michelle Greene added an assist in the second half for Thomas (4-3-0). Brooklyn Curry had an assist and Sofia Sourgiadakis had four saves.

Courtney Duquette had 12 saves for NEC (1-8-0).

Husson 2, Colby-Sawyer 0: Nokomis Regional High School graduate Sabrina Vaillancourt become the all-time leader in career points for the Eagles field hockey team, scoring a pair of first half goals in a victory, in New London, N.H.

Men’s soccer

Thomas 3, Lyndon State 0: Maranacook graduate Dakota Duplissie scored two goals to lead the Terriers to the North Atlantic Conference win in Lyndon Center, Vt. Josh Phelps scored the other Thomas goal, assisted by Tre Ming. Jason Marks made five saves for Lyndon State (0-5-1, 0-1) while Mikkail Cromwell had three for Thomas (4-2, 1-0).

Trinity 2, Colby 1: Mark Perreault’s penalty kick goal 17 minutes into the second half was the difference, as the Bantams took the NESCAC win in Waterville.

Trinity (5-0, 3-0) was awarded the penalty kick when Colby goaltender Cody Funkhouser came out hard and collided with a Bantam player on a breakaway.

Cody Savonen scored on a header of a Malcom Joseph cross just 1:54 into the game to give the Bantams a 1-0 lead. Gray Louis scored for Colby (1-3, 0-3) to tie the game 4:05 into the second half.

Domenic Quade stopped eight shots in net for Trinity, while Funkhouser had nine saves.

Husson 2, UMF 1: Kyle Hargreaves and Jeremy Beers each scored to lead the Eagles to the NAC win in Bangor.

Josh Puckett, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Alain Tuyishime and Andy Stevick chipped in with an assist apiece for Husson (1-4-1, 1-0-1). Erskine graduate Brian Potter made three saves.

For the Beavers (1-2-1, 0-1-1), Ryan Fairbanks scored. Derek Reilly made nine saves.

Women’s soccer

Trinity 1, Colby 0: Elisa Dolan scored the lone goal of the game as the Bantams won a NESCAC game in Waterville.

Monica Difiori had seven saves for Trinity (4-0-0, 3-0-0). Emily Brook had 10 for Colby (1-3-0, 0-3-0).

Thomas 3, Lyndon Satte 2: Kajsa Kaufeldt scored three goals to lead the Terriers to the NAC win in Lyndon Center, Vt. Sarah Cornell scored both goals for Lyndon. Kate Thibodeau made five saves in goal for Thomas (3-4, 1-0) while Emily Strese made 12 for Lyndon State (1-5, 0-2).

Cross country

MIT wins Southern Maine Invitational: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology won the men’s and women’s race in Gorham with 37 points. Bowdoin’s Coby Horowitz was the individual men’s winner with a time of 25:11.

Hannah Zydanowicz of Roger Williams won the women’s race with a time of 18:10.

David Chelimi led Colby runners in 23rd place followed by teammates Silas Eastman (35th) and Charlie Coffman (44th).

In the women’s race, Colby’s Krista Brown placed eighth and Katherine Connolly 10th.

Nick Kopf was the top finisher for the the Thomas College men while Crystal Peatfield led the women.

Cony graduate Briar Beede finished in 32nd place at the meet to lead USM runners while sister Morgan Beede was 52nd in 19:29.26 for USM.

UMF: Every member of the UMF men’s and women’s teams turned in their best times of the season at the 42nd Annual Gordon College Pop Crowell Invitational in Wenham, Mass.

Sam Leal led the way, placing 12th out of 153 runners with a time of 29:35. He was followed by Josh Wynne (28th, 30:13), Austin Gatcomb (36th, 30:39), Jamie Williams (82nd, 33:11) and Andrew Carlson (87th, 33:31). Overall, the men finished sixth out of 14 teams with 189 points. Georgia College won with 25 points.

On the women’s side Katie Flanders finished 16th in 21:21. She was followed by Emma Pidden (40th, 22:42), Cadyn Wilson (62nd, 23:37), Brennie Radulski (74th, 23:53), Emily Franklin (98th, 24:56) and Amelia Tacheny (112th, 25:22). The Beavers were eighth out of 18 teams with 241 points. The University of New England won the meet with 35 points.

Women’s volleyball

Middlebury 3, Colby 0: A day after a big win over Hamilton, the Mules fell to the Panthers in NESCAC action in Middlebury, Vt.

Sarah Arvidson led Colby (4-6, 1-1) with eight kills while Ellie Linden and Kate Pleasants each had 11 assists. Anna Clifford (13), Natalie Roy (11) and Arvidson were the team’s digs leaders.
