AUBURN -- Shanay Gilbert scored the game-winning goal on a rush down the left wing with about 4 minutes left in the second overtime as the Hall-Dale field hockey team beat St. Dominic 2-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference season opener for both teams Friday.
St. Dominic took a 1-0 lead when Callie Greco scored from Emma Simpson early in the first half. Hall-Dale tied it when Amber Bell scored from Gilbert with about six minutes left in regulation.
Molly French made three saves for Hall-Dale, while Taylor Bercerow had six saves for St. Dominic.
Winthrop 6, Boothbay 1: Emma Spahr scored a school-record five goals as the Ramblers won their MVC season opener in Boothbay Harbor.
Kelsey Stoneton added a goal and an assist for Winthrop (1-0-0). Emily Molino added two assists, while Cat Ouellette, Rachel Ingram and Jessica Ames each had one. Alyssa Arsenault had three saves for WInthrop, which had 35 shots.
Nicole LaBrecque scored from Tori Schmidt for Boothbay (0-1-0). Skyler Davis had 19 saves.
Cony 6, Brunswick 1: Six different players scored as the Rams cruised to their second win of the season in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game in Brunswick.
Laurel Wheelock, Haley Hanks, Arika Brochu, Abby Naborowsky, Emily Bowers and Delaney Keithley all scored for Cony (2-0-0). Brochu and Katie Carroll each had an assist for the Rams. Lindsay Lapierre made one save.
Grace Rabinowitz scored the lone goal for Brunswick (1-1).
Nokomis 2, Gardiner 1: The Warriors scored two unanswered goals to earn the KVAC B win in Newport.
Trailing 1-0, Mikayla Pelkey and Meaghan Lovley each scored unassisted goals to give Nokomis (2-0) the win. Kendra Underhill made five saves.
Madeline Reny opened the scoring with an unassisted goal for Gardiner (1-1). Emalee Couture stopped six shots.
