HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Brochu sisters spark Rams past Blue Devils

AUGUSTA -- Sisters Arika and Alyssa Brochu homered to lead the Cony High School softball team past Lewiston 12-0 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Saturday that was shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.

Both home runs came in a six-run inning for the Rams (7-0). Arika Brochu, who also pitched a complete game to earn the victory, hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Alyssa then hit one over the fence in left field for a three-run shot.

Lewiston, which was held to one hit, dropped to 2-5.

Erskine 4, Edward Little 3: Alyssa Gartley pitched a complete game and Hattie Welch had two hits to lead the host Eagles in a KVAC A game in South China.

Erskine (7-0) scored one run in the first and three in the second.

Welch had a double and a single while Gartley struck out one and allowed seven hits.

EL dropped to 1-6.

Baseball

Maranacook 3, Morse 2: Eben Ballard pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run.

Cam Guild drove in two runs in a three-run fourth inning to lead the Black Bears (5-1).

Carson Dalheim drew a bases-loaded walk and Ballard finished with two singles for Maranacook as well.

Morse dropped to 5-1.

Cony 2, Lewiston 1: Cony scored a run in each of the first two innings and Ryan Edwards made them stand in a KVAC A victory in Augusta.

Tayler Carrier had an RBI in the first inning and Cony (3-4) plated another run on a groundout in the second.

Edwards struck out five and allowed six hits.

Luke Cote had three singles to lead Lewiston (4-3).

Erskine 5, Edward Little 2: Shyler Scates and Ryan Pulver each had two singles and an RBI to lead the Eagles to the KVAC B win in South China.

Pulver also picked up the win on the mound for Erskine. Both teams are now 5-2.

Boys lacrosse

Oak Hill 18, Mountain Valley 4: Jon Averill had five goals and five assists to lead the Raiders to the KVAC B win Friday. Caleb Provost added five goals and three assists while Brian Daniels chipped in with three goals four assists. Matt Martin and Kyle Tervo combined to make seven saves.

Kyle Duguay scored three goals for the Falcons. Coyote Freeman made 10 saves.

Hyde 7, Kents Hill 6: Chris McKee scored twice but the host Huskies fell to Hyde.

Drew Sommerhoff, Will Hoffman, Jake Ades, Nick Fortin and Rikkard Kuessen also scored for Kents Hill (5-5). Carston Johnstone made three saves.

Girls lacrosse

Mt. Ararat 14, Gardiner 4: Kat Johnson and Haley Michaud each had four goals to lead the Eagles to the Class B win in Gardiner. Rowley Jones added three goals while Sara Berry, Sierra Gilley and Alyssa Curit had one apiece for Mt. Ararat (2-2). Anna Bruneig made six saves.

Paige Pilsbury scored twice for the Tigers (2-5) while Brooke Davis and Caitlin Ham each scored once. Mikala Parker made 11 saves.
