FARMINGTON — Mark Comstock scored 25 points as the Castleton State College men’s basketball team upset the top-ranked University of Maine at Farmington 70-46 at Dearborn Gymnasium on Friday night.

No. 4 Castleton improves to 17-11 and advances to play in the championshp game today. No. 1 UMF ends the season 21-7.

Comstock was 10 for 11 from the floor. He also had three assists and two steals.

Maranacook Community School graduate Ben Johnson, the conference player of the year, was held to eight points for UMF. He also had eight rebounds.

Nate Caron added 12 points for the Beavers.

Logan White chipped in 12 points for Castleton.

Women’s basketball

Castleton 79, UM-Farmington 47: Liz Douglass came off the bench to scored 19 points as the Spartans beat the Beavers in a NAC semifinal in Castleton, Vt.

Castleton, the No. 1 seed, improves to 27-1, and advances today’s championship game. No. 5 UMF ends the season 12-15.

Lindsay Ranquist scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds for UMF. Kenni Norton added eight points, while Rachel Clement had four points and nine rebounds.

Alyssa Leonard had 12 and Tarryn Bolognani 10 for Castleton.

College Alpine

EISA Championship: Marc Massie and Jim Ryan led the Colby College men’s alpine team to a fourth place finish in the giant slalom at the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Championship at Sunday River in Bethel.

Massie finished in sixth place with a two-run total time of 2:35.67. Ryan finished eighth with a time of 2:36.07.

The Mules finished with a score of 91. The Colby women’s team finished in eighth place. Cassady Roberts had a 12th place finish, with a time of 2:42.24.

College Nordic

Eastern Championship: Lizzie Anderson placed 25th for the Colby College women’s Nordic team in the 5-kilometer classical at the Eastern Championship at Black Mountain in Rumford.

Anderson finished with a time of 16 minutes, 36.5 seconds. Molly Susla finished 32nd with a time of 16:57.7.

Jared Supple led the men’s team, taking a 30th place finish with a time of 29:23.3.

College squash

National Team Championship: The Colby College men’s squash team picked up a 6-3 win over Tufts at the National Team Championship in New Haven, Conn.

Colby will take on Georgetown University at noon today in a semifinal match.

The Mules were led by Will Hochman, who beat Jeremy Ho in five games. Teammate Stephen Carroll beat Gordon Silverman in four games.

College swimming

NESCAC Championship: Jack Mauel tied a 15-year-old school record in the 50-yard butterfly and Vincent Galea and Paul Wennberg both had fourth-place finishes for the Colby College swim team on the first day of the New England Small College Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.

The Mules are 10th of 11 teams after the first of three days of competition with 194 points.

Men’s hockey

Maine 2, UMass 0: Ben Hutton and Mark Anthoine each scored goals to lead the Black Bears past the Minutemen in Amherst, Mass.

Martin Ouellette made 30 saves for Maine (9-16-6, 5-11-6 Hockey East).

Kevin Boyle made 22 saves for UMass (10-17-2, 7-14-1 Hockey East).
