TRAVIS LAZARCZYK: Looking ahead to Sox season in verse

By Travis Lazarczyk
Staff Writer

Can you remember a Boston Red Sox season that began with such low expectations? You have to go back to the early 1990s, when Butch Hobson managed the team for three very bad seasons, to find a Red Sox team from which so little was expected.

In a perfect world, nothing expected means this team cannot disappoint, but I don't think that's true. Another season dramatically under .500 would be a disappointment. Eighty-two to 88 wins is doable. If this team doesn't not contend for a playoff spot, at least it appears it will play hard every day.

I normally wait until later in the Spring to hoist the annual sports haiku, but with so many questions entering this baseball season, it felt appropriate to address the Red Sox season in verse.

If this team wins, everybody will be writing poems about it.
