ORONO — The University of Maine men’s hockey team got goals from Spencer Abbott and Brice O’Connor in a 2-1 win over Merrimack in the deciding game of their best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series Sunday night.

Dan Sullivan made 20 saves for the Black Bears (22-12-3), who advance to play Boston University in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday at the TD Garden in Boston. BU beat New Hampshire 5-4 in double overtime Sunday to win its quarterfinal series.
Top-seeded Boston College faces Providence in the other semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday. The championship game is Saturday night.
