Jack Cosgrove signed a three-year contract to continue coaching football at the University of Maine into a third decade.

A 1978 Maine graduate, Cosgrove has led the Black Bears to a 111-118 record and four NCAA tournament appearances during his 20 years as head coach.

“Jack has done a terrific job as the leader of the Black Bear football team,” said athletic director Steve Abbott in a prepared statement. “He thrives on the intense competition and rivalries in the Colonial Athletic Association, and is committed to continuing to build upon the team’s success.”

Maine is coming off a 5-6 season one year after reaching the national quarterfinals of the Football Championship Subdivision.

“The Cosgrove family is grateful for this opportunity to continue to serve the state of Maine and the University of Maine and its Black Bear football program,” Cosgrove said in the statement. “We look forward to facing – and embracing – the challenge of providing a quality academic and athletic experience for the young men in our program.”

Cosgrove’s base salary for the contract will be $186,995 a year.
