SOUTH PORTLAND — Richmond High School graduate and University of Maine at Augusta freshman Jamie Plummer turned in a banner performance Thursday in the opening round of the Yankee Small College Conference basketball playoffs.

Plummer scored a season-high 37 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to lead the Moose to an 88-76 win against the University of Maine at Machias. Third-seeded UMA plays the winner of Southern Maine Community College and New Hampshire Technical Institute on Saturday afternoon.

“The heart of our team shined through in today’s game,” UMA coach Jennifer Laney said. “we went into the half up by three and it was our freshman who really stepped up for us in the seocnd half. It just goes to show that on this team it can by anyone, any night.”

UMA point guard Courtney Jicks also turned in a strong ghame with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, eight assit and nine rebounds. Teammate Arreonte Lee added 13 points.

HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY

MESSALONSKEE 3, WATERVILLE 0: Chase Cunningham had a goal and two assists to lead the Eagles to the Class B win.

Dan Condon and Jared Cunningham scored the other goals for Messalonskee (18-0-0). Brandon Nale had an assist on each goal. Ben Weeks sstopped 13 shots.

Kaleb Kane made 29 saves for Waterville (10-7-1).
