WATERVILLE — Messalonskee graduate Alyssa Eugley hit for the cycle in the second game and had six hits on the day as Thomas College swept a doubleheader from UMaine-Presque Isle, 12-1 and 12-1 in college softball action Monday afternoon.

Both games were shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule. Lauren Hachey, also a Messalonskee grad, had five hits on the day, and Courtney Veilleux, another Messalonskee grad, hit safely four times. On the day, the Terriers had 27 hits in 57 at bats, for a team batting average of .474.

Mt. Abram grad Taylor Jordan went all five innings in the circle to earn the win in game one. Thomas improved to 12-11 with the sweep, while UMPI dropped to 6-20.

In game two, Eugley tripled in the first inning, doubled in the second, and singled in the third. She then homered to right field in the fourth inning for the cycle.

UMaine-Farmington 9-3, Lyndon St. 2-14: Cony grad Emily Soule allowed five hits and struck out 12 in game one as the Beavers split with Lyndon at Kents Hill.

Five different players had two hits for the Beavers in game one, including Mt. Abram grad Jillian Withee, who drove in four runs. Cony grad Amy Jones was 2 for 4 in the first game and 3 for 3 in the nightcap for UMF, raising her average to .442. The Beavers are 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the North Atlantic Conference.

Lyndon State (5-17, 4-6) hit four home runs in game two, including a pair of dingers by Mountain Valley grad Brooke Dolloff.

BASEBALL

Bowdoin 15-4, Thomas 0-2: The Polar Bears improved to 16-11-1 by earning the sweep in Waterville.

In game one, Chad Martin hit a three-run homer, and Michael Staes threw five shutout innings for the win. Waterville grad Tim Locke was 2 for 2 for Thomas.

In game two, Thomas out-hit Bowdoin, 9-7, but left nine runners on base. Locke had an RBI single and Rett Adams tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings of relief for the Terriers.

New England College 18, Thomas 2: The Terriers ended their regular season with a loss to the Pilgrims in Waterville.

Nick Herzog scored three goals and five other players had two goals apiece for NEC, which led 10-0 at the half. The Pilgrims are 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the North Atlantic Conference.

Caleb Runci and Maranacook grad Jesse Evans had the goals for Thomas (4-8, 4-4). The Terriers are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the NAC.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

OAK HILL 10, HALL-DALE 7, 8 INNINGS: Taylor Lockhart hit a game-tying home run to give an opportunity for the Oak Hill baseball team to go to extra innings and pick up a win over Hall-Dale.

Brady Dion and Jake Bennistan each smacked doubles for the Raiders (1-0). Brandon Pomerleau and Adam Merrill each had two singles for Oak Hill.

Brian Allen hit a grand slam in the fifth inning for the Bulldogs (0-1).
