TOPSHAM — Make that two for two for the Skowhegan wrestling team.

A week after they won the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A title, the Indians cruised to the Eastern A championship Saturday at Mt. Ararat High School.

“We wrestled hard,” Skowhegan coach Brooks Thompson said. “Our goal is to defend our titles and we did.”

Indeed, they did — and it wasn’t close.

Skowhegan featured seven individual champions and finished with 180.5 points. Cony finished second with 144 while Nokimis was third with 97.5.

Oxford Hills (84) and Mt. Blue (70) rounded out the top five.

Camden Hills won the Eastern B title with 203 points while Foxcroft was second with 159. Belfast (82), Caribou (65) and Maine Central Institute (64) followed.

Dylan Dahlberg, of MCI, won the 126-pound title with a 7-5 victory over Robert Banner, of Ellsworth.

It was all Skowhegan in Eastern A.

Cody Craig defeated Christian Jensen, of Brunswick, 5-1 in the 106-pound division. Tyler Craig followed with a victory in the 120-pound division, an 18-3 Tech Fall over Crodell Brooks of Oxford Hills.

Luke Bolster (126 pounds), Julian Sirois (132), Kaleb Brown (145), Logan Stevens (160) and Mikal Federici (180) also won titles for the Indians.

“We had a lot of really strong performances,” Thompson said. “We had seven winners and there are just 14 weight classes. We had a few kids who were sick so we had a lot of guys step up.”

Skowhegan freshman Cooper Holland, who was poised to score well in the 113-pound class, missed the event because of illness.

Also in Eastern A, Cony had a few individual winners as well. Zeko Caudill defeated Kameron Doucette, of Skowhegan, 5-4 in the 138-pound class.

Nic Benner pinned JT Williams, of Mt. Blue, at 1:47 and Elias Younes won a major decision over Nokomis Hunter Glidden 16-4.

Chris Wilson, of Nokomis, won the 195-pound class with a 7-6 victory over Jake Fraser, of Cony.

Gardiner’s Peter Del Gallo and Winslow’s Aaron Lint remained unbeatem at the Western Maine Class B regionals won by Mt. Valley. Del Gallo remained unbeaten over the past two years by posting a 6-1 decision against previously unbeaten Caleb Austin of Mountain Valley in the 113-pound division. Lint, like Del Gallo a defending state champ, pinned Fryeburg’s Trevor Heneschel in the 285-pound division. Other area winners included Oak Hill’s Danny Buteau who pinned Erskine’s Cameron Grass at 106 pounds and Erskine’s Zach Isbell who pinned Raz Baltazar of Morse at 160. Finishing second were Winslow’s Dillon Pelletier (126), Erskine’s Tyler Azevedo (170) and Gardiner’s Andrew Doody-Veilleux (195).
