The Waterville indoor track and field teams were prepared, well-positioned and motivated to sweep the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship meets Saturday.

“We were good to go,” Waterville coach Ian Wilson said.

Now, the Purple Panthers — and every other KVAC team — may not be going anywhere.

The KVAC A and B championship meets were postponed – and may be cancelled altogether — because of the Nor’easter that blasted most of the state Friday.

Officials had pushed back the start time to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Bowdoin College, with hopes the worst of the storm would be over.

However, Brunswick athletic director Gene Keene notified schools Friday that the meets were postponed.

And if no facility can be lined up to host the meets — Bowdoin’s Daily Farley Field House is booked into next week — the meets will be canceled.

“It’s crushing,” said Wilson, whose teams were looking to sweep the KVAC B meet for a fourth consecutive season. “We focus on championships here. We talk all season long about not worrying about your regular season times and scores because it’s all about the championship meets.”

Officials hoped to secure another facility, possibly Bates or the University of Southern Maine, but were not optimistic.

“It doesn’t look good,” Wilson said. “It’s devastating, but we will find a way to turn the negative into a positive. We’ll find a way.”

Waterville senior Bethanie Brown said she was disappointed the meet was postponed.

“We love championship meets,” she said. “I only have a few left with the team, and I was looking forward to it. Now we’ll just have to get ready for states.”

The Class B state championship meet  is scheduled for Feb. 18 at Bates.

Several other sporting events were postponed Friday. The Winslow boys hockey game against John Bapst scheduled Saturday was rescheduled for Tuesday. The Cony hockey team had its game Friday night at St. Dominic moved to Monday, Feb. 18. The Maranacook/Hall-Dale-Winthrop co-operative hockey team will also host Camden Hills at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Lawrence vs. Messalonskee game scheduled Saturday was also moved to Tuesday. The KVAC B basketball championship games set to be played at Cony on Saturday were canceled.
