The Messalonskee girls lacrosse team continues to roll this season. The Eagles have yet to lose a game, and have been impressive on their way to a 6-0 start.

Messalonskee’s Kristy Bernatchez scored five goals in an 8-5 win over Mt. Ararat.

Maranacook/Winthrop’s Jesse Evans scored four goals in a 10-6 victory over Oak Hill.

Cony’s Bayleigh Logan had five goals in a 16-2 win at home against Lincoln Academy.

Gardiner’s Tyler Jamison led all scorers in a 16-4 victory over Oak Hill with four goals.

Cony had nine different players score at least one goal in its victory over Lincoln.

Among the highlights for the Eagles are a 10-9 win over Cony in a hard-fought, back and fourth game, and a win over perennial powerhouse Brunswick.

“Certainly Kristy Bernatchez and Kristen Kern are having great seasons so far, they are both workhorses and when you combine that with their natural athleticism it makes for a lot of fun to watch them on the field,” Messalonskee coach Ashley Poulin said.

Poulin also gave high praise to senior goalkeeper Izzy Skinner, who has grown into a vocal leader.

The Cony girls lacrosse team has played a varsity schedule for six seasons. The Rams made history this season, beating Brunswick for the first time in program history.
“We felt like we got the monkey off our backs this year,” Cony coach Gretchen Livingston said.
The Rams are off to a 3-2 start this season and have been on a roll. Both of Cony’s loses were by one goal and Livingston has been very happy with the performance and resilience of her team.
In the Rams’ 10-9 loss to Messalonskee, there were five lead changes and the Eagles didn’t seal the win until 33 seconds remained in the game.
There has been an even distribution of scoring for the Rams, with many players stepping up. Emily Quirion and Bayleigh Logan lead the team with 15 goals each. Emily’s sister, Hailey, leads the team with 18 points (10 goals, 8 assists). Defensively, Alexis Dostie and Lindsey Kalloch have provided the support needed to help generate opportunities up front. The Rams have used a combination of goalkeepers this year with freshman Lizzy Dennison and junior Izzy Ames splitting time for the Rams.
“Focusing on staying strong and tweaking a few things will help us finish off the season strong,” Livingston said.

Jesse Evans and Zach Glazier are providing a spark and leadership for the Maranacook/Winthrop cooperative team. Glazier leads the team with 18 goals and Evans leads in assists with eight. Both of them have 18 points.

The Hawks, who have a few freshmen in the starting lineup, are starting to hit their stride. The Hawks (4-1) have won four straight.

Coach Zach Stewart is excited for what is to come this year, and thinks he has a team that can make a push in the playoffs. With goalkeeper Zach Bessette, the Hawks have a chance in every game. Bessette has a save percentage of 52 percent.

“They are really buying into the aspect that defense wins games, and the team that wins the ground ball battle is usually the victor of the contest,” Stewart said.

Maranacook/Winthrop is 4-1 and has won four straight.

The Gardiner boys lacrosse team is off to a 6-0 start and has scored double figures in each of their games. The Tigers have scored 98 goals this season and allowed just 21.

With a balanced offensive attack and solid defense, Gardiner will be a tough team to beat. In a 16-4 win over Oak Hill, the Tigers used a balanced attack, with Alex Nadeau and Austin Moore each scoring three goals and Keegan Smith chipping in a goal and four assists.
