Last fall, Bucksbaum led the Yachtsmen to their third consecutive Class B state title.

The Gatorade Award is based on athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character, on and off the field.

"She is quite honestly the hardest-working soccer player I've ever coached, and she had the same work ethic in the classroom," said Wally LeBlanc, who stepped down after coaching Falmouth for the past two years. "She's just driven to be the best person she can possible be, not just the best soccer player but the best person."

Bucksbaum, who also was named the Maine Sunday Telegram Player of the Year and the Class B Player of the Year, had eight goals and 10 assists to lead Falmouth to a 14-2-2 record.

"Caitlin hurt us because her pace and ability to control the ball in the midfield stymied my midfielders, making them ineffective," said Morse Coach Steve Boyce, whose Shipbuilders lost to Falmouth in the West final the past two seasons.

An A student, Bucksbaum has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer on a scholarship at Villanova.
