AUGUSTA — Senior guard Denae Johnson scored six of her 17 points in the game's final 4:32 as Bangor High defeated Mt. Ararat 56-44 in the Eastern Class A girls' basketball semifinals at the Augusta Civic Center.
Second-seeded Bangor (16-4) advanced to the regional title game for the first time since 1999 and will play the Cony-Lawrence winner at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Rams held a 12-point lead early in the third quarter but Mt. Ararat (16-4) trimmed the lead to two five times. But the Eagles were never able to tie the game.
Johnson scored on consecutive drives to give Bangor a 50-44 lead with 3:05 remaining.
Mt. Ararat's Mallory Nelson led all scorers with 24 points.
