COLLEGE ROUNDUP: UMA women beat Vermont Technical College

Lee scores 29 in win

WILLISTON, Vt. — Arreonte Lee posted a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists as the University of Maine at Augusta defeated Vermont Technical College, 76-41, in women’s basketball action Sunday afternoon.

Lee also had four steals and three blocked shots for the Moose. Monmouth graduate Jennifer Lola added 23 points, while Richmond grad Jamie Plummer chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Courtney Jicks contributed 12 points and nine boards.

Serena Reynolds and Paige Wells each led Vermont Tech with 12 points.

EMCC 59, UNITY 47: Carrabec grad Kara Hebert poured in 23 points as the Golden Eagles topped the Rams in Bangor.

Sara Norwood scored 13 points and Hannah Bess had 10 for EMCC (3-11 overall, 2-9 Yankee Small College Conference).

Ashley Moeller led Unity (1-8, 1-6) with 20 points. Candace Robinson hit four 3-pointers, and finished with 12 points and 25 rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

UMaine-Augusta 79, Vermont Tech 70: Tevon Erwin and Brandon Rogers each had a double-double as the Moose held on for the win in Williston, Vt.

Erwin had 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Rogers finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

UMA led by as much as 13 in the first half, but Vermont Tech cut the lead to 71-70 in the final minute. UMA’s Robert Foss was fouled and made the first free throw. After he missed the second, Erwin grabbed a clutch offensive rebound, drew a foul and hit two foul shots for a four-point cushion with 32 seconds left. Erwin added a steal and two more baskets before time ran out.

Jamal Hughes led Vermont Tech with 27 points, and Nick Ryan chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

EMCC 81, Unity 60: De’Anthony McCormick led four Golden Eagles in double figures with 24 points as EMCC downed the Rams in Bangor.

Bryan Canelario (15 points), Cote Card (14) and Jared Gregory (11) were the other top scorers for EMCC. The Golden Eagles are now 9-6 overall and 8-4 in the YSCC.

Eddie Kopacz led Unity (0-8, 0-7) with 21 points. Jacob Scoville scored 14 points and Jared Straight had 12.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Maine 1, Providence 0: Audra Richards scored with one minute left in the first period and Meghann Treacy made 27 saves as the Black Bears picked up their first Hockey East win of the season by defeating the Friars in Orono.

Richards scored off a pass from Karissa Kirkup. Maine (3-14-5 overall, 1-8-3 Hockey East) killed off three penalties with the lead, including two in the third period. Treacy made 11 saves in the final period. Providence’s Beth Hanrahan also hit the post late in the second period.

Sarah Bryant made 22 saves for Providence (10-15-0, 5-7-0).
