LEWISTON — Patrick Stewart led four players into double figures as Colby downed Bates 85-70 in New Engalnd Small College Athletic Confernce men’s basketball action Saturday. Stewart finished with 19 points while Chris Hudnut scored 18, Sam Wilson 16 and Luke Westman 13. Westman and Hudnut each hauled down nine rebounds. Bates junior Billy Selmon led all scorers with 30 points, including nine 3-pointers.

Colby is 14-10 overall and 4-6 in NESCAC play while Bates falls to 11-13, 1-9.

THOMAS 89, GREEN MOUNTAIN 84: Garen Manzo scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Terriers (10-13, 10-6) to the North Atlantic Conference win in Waterville. Thomas trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half but rallied behind Manzo, who scored 24 points in the second half. Cassius Belfon led Green Mountain (4-13, 3-14) with 13 points.

The win was the first at Thomas for coach Dick Whitmore, who took over on an interim basis last week. It was the 638th win in Whitmore’s career, placing him seventh all-time among NCAA Division III coaches.

CASTLETON 98, UMF 92: Logan White scored 27 points to lead the Spartans to the NAC win in Farmington. Maranacook graduate Ben Johnson paced UMaine-Farmington (10-13, 8-8) with 29 points and 16 rebounds while Andrew Dickey added 19 points, Garrett Clemmer and Pet Sumner 15 points each and Nate Carson 10 points and eight rebounds. Steve Rosemond and Chad Copeland added 14 points apiece for Castleton State (17-7, 15-2).

ALBANY 74, MAINE 63: Peter Hooley scored 21 points to lead the Great Danes (13-13, 7-6) to the America East Conference win in Albany, N.Y. Zarko Vallarevic led Maine (5-20, 3-10) while 15 poitns while Ethan Mackey added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

BATES 67, COLBY 40: Meredith Kelly scored 24 points to lead the Bobcats to the NESCAC win in Lewiston. Allie Coppola added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Bates (7-17, 1-9 NESCAC). Cony graduate Mia Diplock led Colby (8-16, 1-9) with 15 points while teammate Brooke Chandler grabbed nine rebounds

THOMAS 63, GREEN MTN. 51: Elizabeth Goodall scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Terriers to the AC win in Waterville. Watervile graduate Ashleigh Gagne added 15 points for the winners while Gardiner grad Katie McAllister scored 11. Allison Wadsworth led Green Mountain (1-20, 0-17). Thomas is 4-19 overall and 4-12 in NAC play.

CASTLETON 91, UMF 60: Jade Desroches scored 27 points to lead the Spartans (21-3, 16-1) to the NAC win in Farmington. Linday Ranquit led UMaine-Farmington (9-14, 8-8) with 15 points whiole Ayla Allen added 11.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BOSTON COLLEGE 4, MAINE 1: Four different players scored for the Eagles en route to the win in Orono while Kayla Kaluzny scored for the Black Bears., Megan Miler made 18 saves in goal for Boston College (22-5-3) while Meghann Treacy made 20 for Maine (5-18-3).

MEN’S HOCKEY

TRINITY 4, COLBY 2: John Hawkrigg scored tow goals to lead the Bantams to the NESCAC win in Waterville. Nick Lanza scored two goals for Colby, the first assisted by Jack Bartlett and Ben Chwick and the second short-handed. Nathanial Heilbron made 30 saves for Trinity (18-4, 13-3) while Ben Csiernik had 30 stops for Colby (10-9-3, 7-8-1).

ALPINE SKIING

Michael Boardman was seventh for the Colby College men’s alpine team and Jeanne Barthold added a top-10 finish by placing ninth in the women’s giant slalom at the Williams Carnival at Jiminy Peak In Hancok, Mass.

on Saturday.

The Colby women placed third for the second day in a row with a score of 80, beating Middlebury and Williams by three points. The Colby men took seventh place and were just four points out of fifth. In the combined team score with alpine and Nordic, Colby was fourth overall among the 15 schools.
