ORONO — The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead over American International College (Springfield, Mass.) and never looked back en route to a 7-1 victory in a nonconference game Friday night at Alfond Arena.

Devin Shore had a goal and three assists to pace the Black Bears (8-6-1), who’ve won four of their last six games. Connor Leen and Steven Swavely each had a goal and two assists for Maine, which is 8-1-0 in the Alfond this season. Dan Renouf, Stu Higgins, Mark Anthoine and Eric Shurhamer also scored for Maine.

Dan Clairmont had the lone goal for AIC (3-11-0).

Maine outshot AIC 59-21. The teams will play again at 7 tonight in the Alfond.

Men’s basketball

ARMY 90, MAINE 80: Kyle Wilson scored 24 points and Kevin Ferguson added 11 to lead the Knights to the non-conference victory at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Mo Williams chipped in with 11 points for Army (3-6), which led 46-44 at the half before pulling away in the second half.

Xavier Pollard scored 19 points off the bench to lead the Black Bears (1-8). He also had six rebounds. Garet Beal and Troy Reid-Knight each scored 11 points for the Black Bears.

BOWDOIN 59, UM-FARMINGTON 53: Keegan Pieri had 14 points and seven rebounds as the Polar Bears remained unbeaten, in Brunswick. John Swords and Andrew Madlinger both added 13 points while Matt Mathias had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Bowdoin (9-0).

Andrew Dickey had 17 points and Pet Sumner 16 for UMF (4-5). Nat Caron added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Maranacook graduate Ben Johnson finished with four points.

Women’s hockey

UNION 2, MAINE 0: Stefanie Thomson and Courtney Turner scored power-play goals in the second period to lift the Skating Dutchmen to the non-conference victory in Schenectady, N.Y.

Shenae Lundberg stopped all 21 shots she faced to earn the shutout for Union (6-11-0).

Meghann Treacy had 24 saves for Maine (0-11-3).
