WATERVILLE — James Connelly pitched five innings of one-hit relief to lead Colby to a 3-2 win over Thomas in non-conference baseball action Monday at Coombs Field.

The Mules took the lead with two runs in the seventh on a single from Soren Hanson and a wild pitch. Thomas scored twice in the fourth on a bases loaded walk from Zack Groat and a single by Joe Quinlan. Nik Beeson finished with two hits for Thomas (5-18) while Dan Csaplar knocked in a run for Colby (13-6).

USM 13, UMASS-BOSTON 6: The Huskies banged out 20 hits en route to the Little East Conference win in Brockton, Mass. Matt Bender and Chris Bernard hit home runs and finished with three hits each along with John Carey and TroyThibodeau. Gardiner graduate Forrest Chadwick added two hits for the University of Southern Maine (20-6, 7-0).

SOFTBALL

COLBY 6, THOMAS 5: Meaghan Lewia singled in Carolyn Bennett with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as the Mules earned the non-conference win in Waterville.

Hall-Dale graduate Carylanne Wolfington went 3 for 4, scored twice and drove in a run for Colby (5-12). Emily Schatz added three hits and scored two runs while Lewia finished with three hits and an RBI.

For Thomas, Messalonskee graduate Alyssa Eugley had two hits and two RBIs.
