WATERVILLE — Amherst College scored all 14 of its points in the fourth quarter, including a touchdown pass by Max Lippe to Wade McNamara with 33 seconds left, to escape with a 14-10 victory over Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference football game Saturday at Harold Alfond Stadium.
Colby (1-3) took the lead with 3 minutes, 43 to play on a 31-yard field goal by Louw Scheepers. The Lord Jeffs (4-0) took over on their own 25-yard line on the winning drive. Amherst converted two third down plays — one an 8-yard completion from Lippe to Kenny Adinkra on 3rd-and-7. Lippe tossed a 17-yard scoring strike to McNamara.

The Mules had just 25 seconds remaining after their kickoff return to their own 22-yard line. Colby got to its own 41 before fumbling the ball away on the final play.
After a scoreless first half, Colby took a 7-0 lead when Justin Ciero found Cony High School graduate Luke Duncklee on an 11-yard scoring play with 6:58 to play in the third quarter. Amherst tied the game on a 72-yard touchdown pass from Alex Berluti to Jake O’Malley.
Ciero threw for 240 yards and led Colby in rushing with 48 yards. Duncklee had nine catches for 98 yards and ran seven times for 28 yards. Nick Joseph made six catches for 92 yards.
Bowdoin 27, Hamilton 21: The Polar Bears earned consecutive wins for the first time since 2011, beat the Continentals in Brunswick.
Bowdoin (2-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a 48-yard TD pass from Mac Caputi to Daniel Barone and a 51-yard run by Zach Donnarumma. Michael English added a 2-yard TD reception from Caputi to push the score to 21-0 in the second quarter.
Hamilton (0-4) got on the board with a 3-yard run by Simon Jia in the second quarter, but the Polar Bears answered back with a 30-yard field goal by Andrew Murowchick to go up 24-7.
Hamilton scored 14 straight points on a 13-yard TD pass from Chase Rosenberg to John Fisher and a 9-yard run by Rosenberg to make it 24-21 in the fourth quarter, but Murowchick added a 26-yard field goal to seal the win.
Caputi finished 12 for 22 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Donnarumma rushed 21 times for 124 yards and a scored, while Joe Cleary led the Bowdoin defense with 12 tackles.
Rosenberg was 21 for 32 passing for 269 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for Hamilton.
Husson 35, Anna Maria 14: The Eagles improved to 3-2, and 2-0 in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference, with the win in Paxton, Mass.
Husson ran for 331 yards. Quarterback Joe Seccareccia led the Eagles with 133 yards on 17 carries. Byron Jackson ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns for Husson.
Messalonskee graduate Desmond Nutter had a fumble recovery and an interception for the Eagles. Anna Maria (1-4) quarterback Gregory McGoldrick threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns.
Wesleyan 35, Bates 7: The Cardinals scored 21 points in the second quarter to take control of the NESCAC game in Middletown, Conn.
Wesleyan (4-0) gained 440 yards while holding Bates (2-2) to 218 yards. Kyle Gibson led the Cardinals with 132 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. LaDarius Drew added 54 yards rushing and a touchdown, while quarterback Jesse Warren was 17 of 20 for 190 yards and three touchdowns.
Ryan Curit led Bates 59 yards rushing. Lawrence graduate Shaun Carroll had seven yards on two carries for the Bobcats.
