QB Ben Lucas of Cony named Gatorade Maine Player of the Year

The quarterback led the Rams of Augusta to the Class B state football championship last month.

Cony High quarterback Ben Lucas has been named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in football.

Lucas, a record-setting passer, led the Rams of Augusta to the Class B state football championship with a 30-23 win over Kennebunk last month. Lucas threw three touchdowns and passed for 347 yards in rallying Cony.

Lucas finished the season with 41 touchdown passes and 3,357 yards. His 89 touchdown passes for his career is a Maine schoolboy record as is his 7,575 passing yards.

Lucas is the first Cony player to be named Gatorade Player of the Year in football.
