FARMINGTON -- Theresa Biggs' goal in the 71st minute pushed the University of Maine at Fort Kent past the University of Maine at Farmington 2-1 in women's soccer on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half, Whitney Sinclair scored off a Jenn Colpitts feed to give Fort Kent a 1-0 edge at 50 minutes, 26 seconds. The Beavers responded under two minutes later when Alida Peake curled a corner kick into the net for a 1-1 tie.
Liz Morneault made six saves for the Bengals (12-2-0), who outshot the Beavers 17-11. McKell Barnes stopped 12 shots for UMF (5-5-1).
Golf
Husson wins North Atlantic Conference title: Husson University recorded four top-six finishes en route to their fifth consecutive North Atlantic Conference golf championship Sunday afternoon at Neshobe Golf Course in Brandon, Vt., with a total team score of 585 (9-over par).
After an opening round 75, Husson's Matthew Loubier rebounded with a 3-under par 69 Sunday to capture second place overall (142), followed by round-one leader Chris Hamel in second (143), Kevin Byrne in fifth (147) and Michael Hersey (153) in sixth.
UMF placed third in the six-team field, two strokes behind Castleton State.
Tennis
Colby College first-year players Matt Carroll and Jason Ottomano each made the title match of their respective brackets before falling to the top seed at the Wallach Men's Tennis Invitational at Bates College in Lewiston on Sunday.
Ottomano fought back for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-2 (pro-set) victory over Skidmore College senior Yahia Imam in a semifinal match. Ottomano then lost a tough 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 (pro-set) battle in the championship match of the "C" flight to Skidmore first-year player Jimmy Sherpa.
Carroll also battled from behind in his 'D' flight singles semifinal. He lost 6-7 in the first set only to score a 6-3 second set victory and then a 10-2 margin in the pro-set against Skidmore first-year player Gabe Steerman. Carroll then lost 6-2, 6-3 to Skidmore first-year player Danny Knight in the title match.
