Harry's Hoe Down begins June 22

Kennebec Journal Staff

STARKS -- Harry's Hoe Down, a festival of music and liberation, will be held June 22-24.

Blending art and activism, performance and rally, the festivals at Harry Brown's Farm return for their 22nd year.

The event will feature more than 20 bands and performers: The Brew, one of New England's favorite jam bands; Dirigo, featuring guitarist Luke Patchen Montgomery and bassist Erik Glockler of Stangefolk; and the all-female band Zili Misik, winners of the 2008 Boston Music Award for Outstanding International Act of the Year. A number of Maine bands with growing followings are featured, including The 220s, Mellow Endeavor and Mudseason.

Live art on the Hill includes puppets, belly dancing, hula-hooping, trash-into-art and, when the lights go out, fire spinners and poi performers. During the day there is a children's area where children can play, create art and enjoy the free space and fresh air of rural Maine.
