Harlow Gallery announces first exhibit of 2013

HALLOWELL -- The Kennebec Valley Art Association recently announced in a press release the first exhibition of 2013 at the Harlow Gallery. On view Jan.18-Feb. 9, ingrained presents the work of five Maine printmakers: Martha Briana of Northport, Anthony Kulik of Belfast, Donna Parkinson of Freeport, Willy Reddick of Belfast and Sarah Vosmus of Bowdoinham. An opening reception is set for 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the gallery, 160 Water St. Hours are noon-6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday or by chance or appointment.

Vosmus' printed collages and three-dimensional constructions explore the boundaries between interior and exterior, order and confusion. The bold tangled patterns are adaptable, fluid and familiar.

Reddick has been working professionally as a painter and white-line woodblock printmaker for more than 25 years. She is known for her meditative images of sleeping dogs and cats on busy, vibrant patterns and regularly exhibits in galleries and museums around New England.

Parkinson creates monotypes through an intuitive response to the natural world, often integrating the use of plant material and actively searching color interaction to find what may wild and hidden in the process of printmaking.

Kulik creates wood engravings. The prints are compact arrangements of a multitude of finely carved lines.

Briana uses a reduction woodcut method to make limited edition prints.
