Maloney is clear choice for district attorney

Letter to the Editor

An article on Sept. 30, " District attorney race offers clear choices," noted that there was a big difference in the candidates running for district attorney. This is true, but not in the way the article suggests.

Republican Darrick Banda can hardly call himself a prosecutor; he left the DA's office to become a defense attorney in Portland a half-decade ago.

In contrast, Democrat Maeghan Maloney has spent the majority of her career on the prosecutorial side as a deputy DA and an assistant attorney general. It is shocking that her short service in the Legislature would be held against her.

Maloney worked across party lines to author and pass the legislation creating the first Veterans Court in Maine and advocated for more DNA testing to help put guilty people behind bars and keep the innocent out of jail.

Maloney's experience makes her the clear choice for district attorney.
