Augusta’s new multimillion-dollar hospital, nearing completion, has chosen Maine Natural Gas (Central Maine Power) for its heating source. Big and small businesses, one after another in Augusta — the Pomerleaus (NRF), Peachey Builders, Gall enterprises (Transco, Wendy’s) and others — are making the same choice for conversion to natural gas.
A large price differential favors Maine Natural Gas over competitor Summit Gas.
MNG’s rate proposal quotes are a quarter of a million dollars (50 percent) less per year than Summit for delivery to Augusta schools, municipal facilities and county buildings, and offers an average $530 per year savings on delivery rates for residential customers.
These numbers are from the request-for-proposal posted on the city government website: www.augustamaine.gov. (see calculations sheet).
Maine Natural Gas, was “in the ground” long before the competition and, don’t forget, won an original request for proposal competition. MNG, the venerable Augusta-based Central Maine Power Co., has a long, respected history in this city.
Augusta’s city council is in a position to save us all a lot of money by choosing MNG for conversion to natural gas at our municipal buildings and schools.
Homeowners and businesses also will be offered the best price. It is not Augusta’s responsibility to, in effect, subsidize Summit’s efforts to sign up other communities by paying more than necessary here.
This city council is one of the best ever, so I know that its final decision will be in the best interests of the people they represent.
MNG (CMP) is the obvious choice for our city.
