I'm writing in response to Daniel Williams' letter of July 13.
His description of the Bible being "a collection of 'hearsay' stories" is a benighted, generalized one. Its translation is accurate, and I could list several factors as to why it is accurate.
If you want to understand the Bible, all you need is a desire for a personal relationship with Jesus which will lead you to an understanding of God's salvation plan. A desire to understand who he is, what he did for all of us and what he can do for anyone who desires to live a life free of condemnation and confinements such as drug/alcohol addiction and the list goes on.
One doesn't have to be a astute historian, or hold a college degree to comprehend the truth of each and every word written in the Bible. I chuckle at times when I listen to self-proclaimed "experts" and how for example they claim to have uncovered how to eat right (Genesis 1:29, Ezekiel 4:9, Lev. 11), or how they've developed things such as cognitive behavioral therapy (Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Philippians 4:6-7)
As far as his comment that "marriage between a man and a woman is not to be found in the Bible" and "Jesus never said it" take a look at Gen. 2: 18-22, 23, 1 Corinthians 7:2. I just can't understand why some people find the need to spend so much time and energy trying to dispute something that is indisputable. The Bible does not promote hate, just the opposite.
So, before passing judgment on all Christians or forming opinions, take the time to read the Bible.
