Daniel Williams in his letter (July 13) "Bible is Collection of Hearsay Stories" commits three big mistakes:
1. He misunderstands the basic and main message of the Bible. We are all sinners and need redemption through Christ.
2. He apparently, like many others, has not read the Bible. Williams says "Marriage between a man and a woman is not found in the Bible and Jesus never said it." In Mark 19:4-6 of the Red Letter Edition of the Bible, Jesus is quoted, "Have ye not read that He which made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they two shall be one flesh?"...
"What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder." Mark 10:6-9 says the same thing.
3. Williams discounts the inspired and most respected and read book in all the world. Many copies of the original Old and New Testaments are in existence. The Bible is documented far more than any other work of antiquity. The Old Testament was copied scrupulously by scribes in Hebrew and Aramaic and for accuracy even the letters were counted. The New Testament was written in the peoples' Greek by contemporaries and witnesses of Jesus who had first hand knowledge. Translations are very accurate especially as to content.
God's way is always best and apparently with the people's veto, our citizens agreed. For some time now, the legislators and governor have not represented the people of Maine. Hopefully, this will change by the next election.
