In his Feb. 1 letter, Ken King discussed the loss of a skating area for children/teens because of the threat of lawsuits.
Maine has the most protective "Landowner Liability Law" (Title 14, MRSA Section 159-A) in the nation. This law is to protect landowners, who open their lands for public "no fee" recreation. I believe there has never been a successful challenge to this law. By law, anyone who brings suit has to pay for all legal costs of the accused.
I hope the people of Mattson Heights in Gardiner will reconsider, and reopen the skating area, knowing the law is on their side.
