Grocers Association monitoring BPA issue

The statement made by Mike Tipping in his opinion piece published on Sunday, Feb. 13, is misleading in regards to the Maine Grocers Association's position on Bisphenol A.

In a letter dated Dec. 13 to then-Gov.-elect Paul LePage, I submitted a series of recommendations that included, "The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is poised to promulgate rules that may ultimately ban 'BPA' in many products both manufactured and sold in Maine, and the MGA recommends that these rules be postponed until the FDA has time to complete its scientific assessments."

The Maine Grocers Association is monitoring this issue and potential implications for Maine businesses, and that is why we raised the issue.
