As a very conservative person, my politics most often fall on the Republican side of issues. Trying to separate the person from the politics is difficult.

I recently read a essay about hunger written by Craig Hickman, Democratic candidate for House District 82, about the closing of the local hot meal kitchen. My grandmother, Marion Cobb (my hero), cooked in the hot meal kitchen for many years.

In response to the kitchen closing, Hickman opened his own farm and kitchen to anyone who was hungry and had no idea where their next meal was coming from. My grandma would be proud of Hickman.

His actions created a ripple effect that transcended the politics of an organization he did not even belong to and ultimately resulted in reopening of the hot meal kitchen. I am proud to call him my friend. I hope others will join me in voting for Hickman.
