Editorial about wind power 'bad reporting, not truthful'

The May 4 editorial that ran in all three MaineToday Media papers was not up to the standards that Maine people deserve. To belittle those opposing industrial wind developments in our mountains, to say that it's all about the view, and to insinuate that we are anti-business, is not only bad reporting, it is simply not truthful.

I believe industrial wind on our mountains is a scam that will not add to energy independence, will not reduce the use of fossil fuels, will cost us a lot of money, and will not bring permanent jobs.

It is already killing jobs in our $10 billion per year tourism industry. I have had clients tell me: "If those turbines go up, we're not coming back." I know at least one Maine Guide who has closed his doors to go work elsewhere, because his clients stopped coming back when the turbines went up.

Every client who doesn't come back not only affects us, but has a ripple effect throughout the community as they don't shop in local stores, don't eat in local restaurants, don't buy local gas, etc.

The only thing "green" about these projects is the massive amount of public tax money that developers like Angus King get to put in their pockets for promoting them. If King, Iberdrola, and the rest really wanted to do what was right for Maine, they would stop spreading misinformation, and help us work toward a sound energy policy. I believe most people in Maine do not support these projects, as can be seen in recent polls. It seems that the editors/owners of MaineToday Media have strong reasons to promote wind development, but that does not excuse biased reporting, and the refusal to print the truth.
