I found the letter, "Maine becoming Michael Vick state," on Sept. 16 to be very offensive to the people on MaineCare, food stamps and low-income families and to pitbulls in general.
Certain people or animals shouldn't be lumped together in one group and judged because we don't know them and haven't any idea what the circumstances are.
I think Mrs. Francis Hart should leave her prejudices at home.
Pit bulls are loving, loyal and gentle dogs until some thug like Michael Vick comes along and ruins the poor dogs. Ban the deed not the breed.
I think we need to look at the parents and or owners for full responsibility. How would Hart feel if someone came to her home and took her child because they thought he/she looked dangerous and might hurt someone? They would be judging them by looks, pretty much what she has done to some people and to all pit bulls.
Taking someone's pet that hasn't done anything wrong because it looks dangerous is wrong. If there is a problem with a dog, any dog, address it then.
This is not a country that rounds up people or animals because of how they look, what they believe or what they are. Does this sound familiar?
Finally, I do not have pit bulls nor am I low-income (not that it matters). I have three dogs, two Jack Russells and a boxer. So, please don't judge people or animals by their looks.
