Yes, Alice Madigan (letter, Aug. 23), the news today is scary, especially when a person gives their own narrow, intolerant version of events.
Fact: There are presently 103 mosques in New York City, 25 alone in the borough where this great mosque is proposed. One of these known mosques is one block away from the proposed grand edifice.
Fact: St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was so badly damaged during the atrocity of 9/11 that it had to be razed. As of today, they have not been able to receive the needed permits to be rebuilt.
Fact: Iman Fahr has without problems and impediments being thrown at him, to receive all permits needed for the building of his mosque.
Fact: The new mosque will cost $100 million. Imam Fahr has refused to divulge where this money is coming from. He is presently in the Middle East, at the expense of President Barack Obama's generosity, recruiting monies for his grand edifice.
Fact: The United States of America allows freedom of religion and believes all men are created equal.
This country still allows people to freely express their belief without being called Nazi and other intolerant names. Based on the above facts, I am in opposition of the building of this mosque (the Imam calls it a mosque so don't I) on this site. Build it elsewhere.
