Why do we give incarcerated felons right to vote?

I am writing to let the public know that Maine is one of two states in the nation that allows incarcerated felons, such as murderers and rapists, to vote.

It is amazing to me that our Legislature has allowed these individuals, who have disregarded laws, to make decisions that will affect taxpaying, law-abiding citizens.

This makes no sense.

L.D. 300 was submitted in 2007 to correct this injustice, but the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee said it shouldn’t pass.

It would have put a constitutional amendment out to voters to restrict Incarcerated felons from voting.

Please contact your state representative or state senator to support this common-sense legislation for the future.
