It is time to get realistic about Augusta’s bloated city government and make some serious cuts to staff and services. City taxpayers cannot afford these annual tax increases.
I read with interest the city manager’s statement about the need to keep employee pay competitive. Why? Competitive with who? I am certain employees would have a hard time in today’s economy to find better pay and benefits then they have with the city. And that is part of the problem, pay and benefits should be cut, staff should be cut, services should be cut, if need be.
The City Council should do the right thing for Augusta taxpayers and get this bloated city government under control.
