I’ve heard a lot about what’s needed to fix the problems with our economy and government. I believe we need two things that lacks in society today: common sense and accountability.
Gov. Paul LePage recently said he wants to abolish environmental laws because of the government bureaucracy they create. This statement shows a lack of common sense. Why would it make sense to reverse environmental laws that protect the natural beauty of the state of Maine which drives the tourism industry?
If there are too many toxins, then the fish are toxic, the farmlands are not fertile and the forest doesn’t grow as strong as it should.
I’ll be the first to say that we have enough laws in this state,; but if people and industries would police themselves we wouldn’t need the regulations.
If we allow farmers to sell food that’s knowingly contaminated with a pathogen such as E. coli that kills people, then we’re just as bad as those farmers. If other farmers know that one farmer is selling contaminated goods, they should do what they can to make sure that farmer stops. This will protect the public and their livelihoods.
For those who say God gave man dominion over all the Earth; God also made us all attendants of his creation.
