Gun carriers operate under the influence

Letter to the Editor

I think the names of concealed weapons carriers should be posted in every town office and city hall in the state of Maine. That information should be available to citizens so we can know whom to avoid.

I don't buy the "bad guy-good guy" garbage. I'm 70 years old, and I've seen some real junk with the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

I'd make an exception for women terrorized by men and people truly in danger, but many people are rushing to get concealed weapons permits because it's cool to "pack some heat." Listen to the talk; they're just a lot of Dirty Harry wannabes!

Guns might be equalizers, but they're also enablers, enhancers, emboldeners. Every gun carrier is "operating under the influence," an elevated sense of empowerment.

I don't trust a man packing a gun. I can't tell where the man ends and the gun begins.

What do all these guns get us in the end? We saw Dirty Harry last summer without his gun. Old man. Empty chair. Empty message.
