I was a U.S. Army military police officer for six years, 1969-75, then I was as a police officer in a large city in the Northeast and served on the SWAT team there.
I’ve been a street cop my entire career. Even I could not protect against a gunman entering a school with an assault weapon if I only had a concealed handgun.
I believe the answer is to provide the schools with U.S. Army troops with M-16 and full training. Our children will feel safe and get to admire these brave troops.
We also should make the schools safer, with only one entry with cameras and bulletproof glass.
This is a simple answer to the complex problem of school safety.
