WINSLOW — A 71-year-old man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Friday, about six hours after he finished a two-month jail sentence.

David Maxwell McCaslin, 71, who had been released from Kennebec County jail about 5 p.m. Friday , was charged with disorderly conduct and refusing to sign a criminal summons about 11 p.m., after he allegedly disregarded several warnings from police during four separate encounters, Lt. Joshua Veilleux said.

The first encounter was about 9:45 p.m., when McCaslin called police to report that his mattress and motorized mini-bike had been stolen from his apartment while he was in jail. While police were at the Clinton Avenue apartment, McCaslin was extremely intoxicated and agitated. He also crossed a line, Veilleux said.

“He has a tendency to put his hands on people,” Veilleux said. “He had put his hands on all three responding officers. He was warned for disorderly conduct and for touching the officers.”

Police left McCaslin’s apartment, but not for long.

At 10:21 p.m., police received a noise complaint from one of McCaslin’s neighbors. McCaslin was allegedly banging on the walls of his home, which woke a sleeping baby next door, Veilleux said. While police were driving to the apartment, a second caller complained that McCaslin was standing on a neighbor’s porch pounding the door. Police issued another warning.

At 10:53 p.m., as officers were preparing to drive away from the scene, McCaslin returned to the neighbor’s door and resumed pounding, Veilleux said. Officers issued another warning and left.

Fewer than five minutes later, a third caller reported that McCaslin was pounding on her door. When officers returned, McCaslin was arrested and taken back to the jail. During the booking process, McCaslin was combative and threatened to kill one of the officers, but he was not charged for making the threat, Veilleux said.

During the past 10 years, McCaslin has been the subject of more than 100 police calls. His previous jail stint stemmed from an Aug. 2 arrest in Waterville on charges of criminal trespassing, assault and violating conditions of release.

In July, McCaslin was sentenced to 14 day after he assaulted a firefighter who was treating him for injuries he sustained during a fight in Winslow.

In November, McCaslin was a victim of crime when he was allegedly assaulted and kidnapped by two dinner guests at his home. He later escaped, but decided against pressing charges because he said the two suspects were friends.

McCaslin remained in jail Monday pending $500 bail and is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m., Nov. 20, in Kennebec County District Court.
