WATERVILLE -- A West Street woman has been charged with felony assault after she allegedly attacked two medical care providers in a local emergency room.

Molly Roy, 24, was arrested at 9:45 p.m. Sunday on two assault charges stemming from the incident, which happened at about 7 p.m. Saturday at MaineGeneral Medical Center's Thayer campus, police said. Assault on an emergency medical care provider is a felony in Maine.

"While she was in the emergency room, an altercation occurred and the charges are the result of that altercation," said police Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey.

Rumsey said that the alleged assault was reported immediately and that police knew where Roy was between the alleged attack and her arrest, but said that medical privacy laws prevent him from saying where she was.

Two women suffered minor injuries as a result of the alleged assault, Rumsey said.

"We made arrangements for Ms. Roy to present herself at the police station so that we could process her arrest," Rumsey said. "She was cooperative with us and participated in the booking process."

Rumsey wouldn't say why Roy was in the emergency room.

After Roy's arrest, she was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. She is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court on Feb. 26.

In 2010, she was fined $300 for an assault in Waterville.
