Waterville to get $4K per month in temporary Fairfield police administration deal

FAIRFIELD — Waterville's police department will receive $4,000 per month to provide administration services to the Fairfield police department on an interim basis, as the town conducts a search for a new chief of police.

The money will be paid out of the police reserve account, Deputy Town Manager Cynthia Tuttle confirmed Monday.

The agreement covers a four-month period that began March 1 and extends to June 30.

Tuttle said the arrangement could end sooner, but that a search for a new candidate is likely to extend into June.

Former chief John Emery resigned March 1 after an extended leave of absence that began Dec. 26.

During the leave of absence, other officials within the department were performing administrative duties but Town Manager Josh Reny said last week that the duties were detracting from routine police work.
