AUGUSTA — A city man is facing charges after reportedly hitting a woman with his car as she crossed Water Street Monday night.
John Henderson, 28, of Augusta, was issued a summons charging him with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, said police Lt. Christopher Massey.
The victim, 34-year-old Penny Ladd of Augusta, was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with what police believed were non life-threatening injuries.
Hospital officials said Ladd was treated and released.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. as Ladd walked east to west across Water Street near the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen. Henderson, who was driving north, struck Ladd with his car and kept driving, Massey said. A driver who witnessed the accident continued to follow Henderson and reported his location to police by cellphone. Police caught up to Henderson on Washington Street, Massey said.
Ladd was in the crosswalk when she was struck, Massey said.
There were no injuries reported in Henderson’s car.
