WINDSOR — Two people were taken to the hospital Monday after a three-car wreck on Route 17.
Chantel Madina, 20, of Gardiner, who is pregnant, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta as a precaution, said Sgt. Scott Taylor of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeremy Pare, 34, of Manchester, was taken to the same hospital to be treated for cuts to his face and complaints of pain in his arms. None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening, Taylor said.
The third driver, Philip Lewis, 62, of Sabattus, was not injured.
The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m., as Madina, driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, was following Lewis’ 2009 Toyota Corolla east on Route 17. Lewis slowed to turn left into Ron’s Electric. Madina failed to notice Lewis’ slowing car and hit it from behind, Taylor said.
The impact pushed Lewis’ car into the westbound lane, where it was hit head-on by Pare’s 2004 Toyota Corolla.
All three vehicles stayed in the road, blocking both lanes.
“Traffic was held up for probably 20 minutes,” Taylor said.
The speed limit in the area is 55 mph.
Rescue workers from Delta Ambulance and Windsor and Augusta rescue, as well as Windsor firefighters, responded to the crash.
No substances were involved in the crash and there are no charges, Taylor said.
