AUGUSTA — A Gardiner woman was hospitalized Saturday after a crash in which her car went off Whitten Road and struck a utility pole, cutting electrical power to the area, including traffic signals, and she faces charges of drunken driving.
Augusta Police Lt. Kevin Lully said Tammy Rastelli, 38, was traveling north on Whitten Road when she lost control of her vehicle, went off the shoulder and severed the pole a few feet up. Rastelli was alone in the sedan.

Rastelli, who was able to get out of the vehicle, was taken by Augusta Rescue to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Lully said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
The accident and downed pole and wires forced police to close the road for several hours. Central Maine Power Co. crews had to replace the pole.
The crash occurred about 3 p.m., and Lully said Rastelli appeared to have just left a business, SpareTime Recreation, on Whitten Road.
Rastelli was summonsed on charges of operating after habitual offender revocation (with prior) and operating under the influence (with three-plus priors).
Lully said Rastelli was summonsed rather than arrested because she was admitted to the hospital.

At 12:40 a.m., Nolan Brann, 23, of Augusta, was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault, assault, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention after police were called to a report of a disturbance on South Chestnut Street.
7:27 a.m., a North Belfast Avenue caller reported theft of a motor vehicle.
2:11 p.m., a Green Street resident reported a burglary.
